Intern - Manufacturing Engineering (Routings) - Fall 2024
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering intern with a passion for manufacturing processes. As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern (Routings), you will work closely with our engineering team to create and maintain process maps, understand bill of materials (BOM), perform material calculations, and prepare data for our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Strong communication skills and the ability to interpret manufacturing processes are essential for success in this role.
This internship will start in Fall 2024 (mid August) and end in mid December 2024.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Mapping and Flow: Collaborate with the engineering and floor production teams to create and maintain detailed process maps and process flows for manufacturing operations. Ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness of process documentation.
Bill of Materials (BOM) Understanding: Develop a thorough understanding of the structure of the Bill of Materials at a design level. Analyze BOMs to identify materials, components, and their interdependencies within the manufacturing process.
Material Calculations: Perform material calculations to determine required quantities of raw materials, components, and supplies for manufacturing processes. Ensure optimal inventory levels to support production schedules.
Data Preparation for ERP: Assist in preparing and organizing data for input into the ERP system. This includes accurately documenting manufacturing steps, material requirements, and any other relevant information necessary for efficient production planning and control.
Communication and Collaboration: Liaise with floor personnel to gather insights into manufacturing processes and identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process enhancements and optimize efficiency.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar engineering programs
- Strong interest in manufacturing processes and operations.
- Proficiency in process mapping and flowcharting techniques.
- Basic understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) structures.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform material calculations and analyze data.
- Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with floor personnel and cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
Internship Period
Duration: Approximately August 12, 2024 - December 13, 2024 (flexible based on school schedules and commitments)
Availability:
- Preferred: 30+ hours per week
- Open to part-time: Minimum 12 hours per week
